Hi! I am Mo Choumil.

I grew up in Casablanca, Morocco, in a family that didn’t have much, but my parents made sure I understood the power of education. My father was self-employed his entire life—first running a barbershop and later driving a cab. He never worked for anyone else, which probably explains why I’ve always been driven to carve my own path. Academics were a big deal in our household, and I took that seriously, consistently ranking at the top of my class.

Beyond school, I was an athlete at heart. I played soccer, volleyball, tennis, and handball whenever I could. Sports taught me discipline and teamwork, qualities that have stayed with me through every phase of life.

At 16, I was awarded a scholarship to Lyon University in France. It felt like a huge opportunity, but my parents thought I was too young to leave home. Their concerns made me stay in Morocco, and while it was hard at the time, I trusted their judgment. I kept focused on excelling in school, knowing there would be other chances to spread my wings.

That chance finally came when my cousin moved to the D.C. area in 1988. With his help, and the $500 my aunt raised by selling her jewelry, I was able to make the leap. I arrived in Fairfax, Virginia, on September 13, 1988, ready for the next chapter of my life.

Moving to the U.S. was a game changer. My cousin Ali was there to help me during those first few weeks, which made the transition smoother, but I knew I had to hit the ground running. I quickly found a job as a host at Po Folks in Fairfax, and within weeks, I enrolled at Northern Virginia Community College, converting my tourist visa to a student visa.

Balancing full-time work with full-time school wasn’t easy, but I genuinely enjoyed the hustle. I worked my way up from host to waiter to bartender, and I was good at it. I’ve always had a knack for connecting with people, and that helped me build strong relationships with my customers.

On weekends, I’d go out to clubs with friends and classmates to unwind. But with so much going on, my grades started to slip. I went from being an A student to a B student. That was tough to accept at first, but I learned to adapt. I realized that life wasn’t just about academic perfection—it was about learning how to juggle responsibilities, grow, and enjoy the ride along the way.

In 1993, my life took a turn I hadn’t expected. Joe Wood, a regular customer at the restaurant, recruited me to work at his title abstract company, Alexandria Real Estate Title. I knew nothing about title work, but I was always a quick learner. Before long, I became one of the top performers at the company.

While I was thriving, I wanted more. The company was a family-run business, and there wasn’t much room for me to grow. That’s when I decided it was time to branch out on my own. In 1997, with encouragement from my friends Todd and Jeannette Fisher, I launched Metro Title. They promised me overflow business, which helped me get started and build my client base. From there, things took off.

In 2000, I wanted to take things further. I founded Alltech Title, which eventually grew into Alltech National Title. Starting a new company wasn’t easy, but I had great mentors. Glen Jackson, owner of Sentinel Title, let me take over one of his failing offices, which was a huge help. It cut down my startup costs and allowed me to focus on growing the business. Another key figure was Troy Toureau, a top loan officer in the area, who promised to send all his business my way. True to his word, he did, and that gave Alltech the boost it needed to succeed.

We grew to become a major player in the DMV area, but when the 2008 financial crash hit, everything changed. It was one of the toughest challenges I’d faced, but it also taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and adaptability. We slowly rebuilt, and by 2010, with the help of government down payment assistance programs, the business began to pick up again.

One of my personal pillars is continuous growth and learning, and I’ve always looked for ways to improve, both personally and in business. In 2011, we became one of the first title companies to go fully digital, which helped streamline our operations. Then in 2017, we moved everything to the cloud, which turned out to be a major advantage when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. We were already set up to work remotely, so we didn’t miss a beat, and the company continued to grow despite the challenges.

One of my core beliefs is that success isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s about how you can use that success to make a difference for others. I’m deeply committed to giving back, both locally and globally, to people in need. Whether it’s providing financial support to causes I believe in or offering my time and experience, I’m driven by a desire to contribute wherever I can.

For me, giving back is about more than writing checks; it’s about making a tangible impact. I want to help others—whether it’s through educational initiatives, supporting underprivileged communities, or contributing to global efforts. It’s part of my philosophy that true growth isn’t just about what you gain, but what you give back.

When I’m not working, I make time for the things that keep me grounded. I love spending time with my family, traveling, and staying active. Sports have always been a big part of my life, and that hasn’t changed. Whether it’s playing tennis or just going for a run, staying physically active helps me stay sharp and balanced.

At the core of everything I do is the belief in continuous growth and contributions. I’m always looking for ways to learn more, improve myself, and give back to the community. Whether it’s in business or in life, I believe in pushing myself to be better and in helping others achieve their potential along the way.
